The
Appeals On CD application is designed to assist Court Clerks
in the Appellate Departments of the trial courts in the time-consuming
and cumbersome preparation of the Clerk's Transcript, comprised
of documents filed by the court and parties to a case.
When
a party files a Notice of Appeal in a case, shortly thereafter they
are required to file a Notice designating the papers or records
to be included in the Clerk's Transcript on Appeal. The Notice lists
all documents contained within the court's file in the particular
case that the party designates to be included in the Clerk's Transcript.
The opposing party in the case also has an opportunity to file a
Notice designating additional documents to be included in the Clerk's
Transcript. Depending upon the case type, the Clerk's Transcript
may consist of anywhere from a few documents to several hundred.
Working
in conjunction with ISD Corporation's eICMS
Civil Module and electronic imaging applications, the Appeals On CD
system accesses case information from eICMS
and stores it in a database on a computer located in the Appellate
Department of the court. This database contains all electronic
imaged documents associated with a particular case.
In
lieu of locating and manually copying all documents in the court's
paper file, which are listed on a party's Notice designating the
papers or records to be included in the Clerk's Transcript, a clerk
using Appeals on CD simply accesses the case in the database,
checks off the documents listed on the Notice and hits "print."
A complete copy of the Clerk's Transcript is printed in a fraction
of the time it takes to manually locate and copy all of the documents,
and it is ready for transmittal to the Appellate Court and the parties.
